When we forgive, we release the burden of negativity and allow ourselves to focus on the present and future instead of being trapped in the past.

Forgiveness is the release of resentment or anger. Forgiveness doesn’t mean reconciliation. One doesn't have to return to the same relationship or accept the same harmful behaviors from an offender.


Forgiveness is vitally important for the mental health of those who have been victimized. It propels people forward rather than keeping them emotionally engaged in an injustice or trauma. Forgiveness has been shown to elevate mood, enhance optimism, and guard against anger, stress, anxiety, and depression.


Why It's Necessary To Forgive Someone Who Have Hurt You

It is necessary to forgive so that you are not weighed down or in pain.  You need to forgive so you can move on.  Unforgiveness breeds anger and bitterness - it ends up hurting you - not the person who offended you.


When you hold on to anger toward someone what you are actually doing is giving them power over you.  You give them the power to make you angry.  Don't do that.  Don't allow anyone to have the power to disrupt your life.


I had to learn this lesson myself.  A very wise and loving friend taught me the concept of forgiveness - whether or not the person deserves it - is not the question! Here are 5 reasons why you should forgive and forget.

By choosing to forgive, you free yourself from that emotional burden and reclaim your power to move on.
